3-Day Safari in Lake Mburo National Park

A 3-day safari to Lake Mburo National Park is one of the best short wildlife experiences in Uganda. Located just a few hours from Kampala, this compact yet diverse park offers a perfect getaway for travelers seeking wildlife, nature, and relaxation within a limited time.
The safari combines game drives, boat cruises, nature walks, and cultural experiences, giving visitors a well-rounded experience of Uganda’s natural beauty. Despite being one of the smaller national parks, Lake Mburo is rich in wildlife and is especially known for its large populations of zebras and antelopes.

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Lake Mburo National Park

Your journey begins with an early morning departure from Kampala or Entebbe. The drive to Lake Mburo National Park takes approximately 4 to 5 hours, offering scenic views of rural Uganda, rolling hills, and traditional homesteads.
Along the way, you may stop at the Equator crossing for photos and a brief experience of standing in both hemispheres.
Arrival and Afternoon Game Drive
Upon arrival at the park, you check into your lodge and enjoy lunch before heading out for an afternoon game drive.
During the game drive, you may encounter:
Zebras
Impalas
Buffaloes
Elands
Warthogs
Topis
Lake Mburo National Park is the only park in Uganda where impalas are commonly found, making it unique among Uganda’s wildlife destinations.
After the game drive, you return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Boat Cruise and Nature Walk

After breakfast, you head for a boat cruise on Lake Mburo, one of the highlights of the safari. The cruise offers a peaceful and scenic way to observe wildlife along the lake shores.
During the cruise, you may see:
Hippos in the water
Nile crocodiles

Water birds such as fish eagles, kingfishers, and herons

Afternoon Nature Walk

In the afternoon, you take part in a guided nature walk, one of the most unique activities offered in the park.
Accompanied by a ranger, you explore the park on foot and observe wildlife more closely. Common sightings include:

Antelopes such as impalas and bushbucks
Birds and small animals
Nature walks also allow you to learn about animal tracks, plant species, and the park’s ecosystem.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive and Return

Early Morning Game Drive
On your final day, you wake up early for a morning game drive, which is the best time to spot wildlife when animals are most active.
This is a great opportunity to see animals you may have missed earlier, as well as enjoy the beautiful sunrise over the savannah.

Return Journey

After breakfast, you check out of the lodge and begin your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe.
You may have a stopover for lunch along the way before arriving in the city in the afternoon or evening.
